Starting a world war and wiping out a clan of dwarves...

great credentials for a non-evil party.

We should probably let them live. Too many people know we were going to visit them and if they suddenly disappeared it might cause issue.

We could however sneak back later and rob them blind when they're sleeping. Teleporters please take careful note of your surroundings.

I was thinking that if you donated the hammer to the dwarves, they'd be in your debt--for some future need.

Had it been some culturely significant item that option was on the table,, Since they did not get excited about it or lie to me about its worth to them it was only a hammer of 10k value to them. Greedly little fucks they might be but I don't think $$$ alone would gain eternal good will from them.. had it been a artifact of their founding king yada yada ,, maybe.

just my veiw of the dynamic

Given that 10,000 gp is a lot of money, relatively speaking, the dwarves do treasure the hammer.

but they showed us 100k+ worth of other stuff, yes its worth lots but they got lots.. I'm just saying its not special enough to make they honour bound to us for returning it, therefore I may as well have the $ or in this case a better sword.

PostSubject: Racial stereotypes   Fri Jan 29, 2010 5:55 pm

Dwarves and their damned hammers.

Have you noticed that fantasy races are stereotyped? Of course, it might be inadvisable to define a fictional race otherwise, because other than physical characteristics, how else can we imagine a race other than via a generalized impression with collective traits? In real life (in my view), perceived racial traits are actually cultural; race and culture are often strongly linked in the mind because cultural differences tend to arise from segregation due to race, and racial differences indicate historical, geographic boundaries that demarcate "us vs. them" ("they" are always regarded as inferior, subhuman, etc., which "permits" "us" to abuse them).

Imagine if a fantasy racial stereotype were wrong. For example, what if dwarves had no special desire to venture underground? "I'm offended, sir, at your assumption that I prefer dark, subterannean ratholes. It's a good thing for you that the Dwarven Rights Commission is currently at a conference under the Blue Mountains". Or that all dwarves are bearded (i.e., it may turn out, as I mentioned Monday, that male dwarves are clean-shaven and remain at home, and that the dwarves we are familiar with are actually females).
