Mailed Fist IAQ

1. You have a campaign?

Yes, but I haven't GMed for some years.

2. What is Mailed Fist?

It's a work in progress that started in about 1988, when I decided to write my own RPG rules. AD&D didn't satisfy on an intellectual level, and I felt I had good or better ideas. After a few iterations (called Cells & Serpents, which I dropped when I learned that the name was already in use), one of which was actually played by the regular group, I started to revamp them again after deciding that its d100-based probability structure with an adapted Rolemaster™ skill system was clumsy, needlessly complicated, and inelegant.

The main changes are: everything is determined with d10 rolls; attributes, such as strength and intelligence, are recorded as modifiers rather than as scores that must be cross-indexed to arrive at modifiers--thus eliminating the "middle man" (inspired by Ars Magica™); it's a skill-based rather than a character class-based system; hit points and injuries have been replaced with something totally different; the magic system has been revamped; etc. I have tried to avoid tables and the need to reference rules during play. I have also tried to reduce combat die-rolling.

3. Will you ever GM again?

Yes!

4. C'mon. Really?

I told you once. . . .

4. Will the campaign be libertarian propaganda?

No. But I will endeavour to depict the campaign as realistic according to my understanding of history and human behaviour (but not so realistic as to preclude entertainment; playability takes precedence). This includes force relations and economic issues. Nobody in my campaign is a libertarian, and libertarianism does not exist there. However, players who want their characters to become merchants or who involve themselves in the economy will witness market behaviour, and it would be impossible for me to present things except as I see them. Also, there is nothing mysterious about the libertarian view of the market: we agree with mainstream thinkers that demand and supply are central to economic activity. This does not mean that capitalist characters will succeed by any means, for aggression is common and it can always bring instability and upset plans--and this is resolved according to conventional game mechanics (i.e., combat). Players need not fear my views; in fact, it is doubtful that they will be noticeable. Besides, every GM has opinions about how the world works, even if they're not systematic. Finally, I can't even conceive what a "libertarian spin" might be. Political entities in my campaign are not libertarian; rather, they are feudal, imperial, bureaucratic, tyrannical, etc.

I had a copy of the rules about 10 years ago. Since then I know that they have changed almost completely.

Is there an approximate time frame for this to start. None of us are getting any younger and isn't it around this age that people start kicking off?

in any case

regards
