"Character Monologue: Tell Us What It’s Like To Be You".

Intro:

Quote :
Our heroes have just come back to town after exploring the wastelands, and the GM asks Fred what his character, Skark the scavenger, is doing.

Quote :
“He’s looking around to see if he can buy some more shotgun shells, then he’ll check in at the weather tower to see if they picked up any new radio signals. Oh, and he’ll get some salve for that 6 hits of burn damage he took.”
[...] Informative, yes, but it doesn’t exactly draw you into the magical world of the imagination. Are you intrigued? I’m not intrigued.

The GM tries again and says, that’s great. Now tell us what it’s like to be your character, right now. What’s your character thinking, or feeling, or just what is it like to walk around behind his eyes? Fred thinks for a moment then starts talking, and everyone else sits back and listens.

Quote :
“Skark is tired and dusty from his long days in the wastelands. He’s limping a little from the burns on his leg, and he’s still mad at Pog for crashing the rover. Coming back to town always feels like coming home, but Skark is too tough to ever let anyone see that. As he trudges between the shanties and he sees people planting seeds and kids playing, he doesn’t smile, but inside it makes him feel like he’s doing something that makes a real difference. Even his burns hurt a little less.”
That’s a good character monologue. Yep, now I’m digging Skark, because I get him. Now I want to see what happens to this guy. I’m interested.

Rild is invigorated with purpose yet frustrated by the number of things he feels he needs to get done to safeguard the town, the temple and all those people who have placed their faith in our little band of adventures. If only the others would show a little ambition and take on some of these roles, we might actually get everything done.

He’s pleased that last night’s reception to introduce Lysse to the religious community of GreyHawk seemed to go so well but it will take some time and follow up visits to see if any pledges of political and logistical support can be squeezed out of the other temple leaders, regardless we must play nice to earn legitimacy. Rild is reluctant to stay in town much longer but Lysse needs the time and he's duty bound to stay with her as guard/chaperone; those new vestments really show of her curves, hmmmm. Perhaps he can use the time to find some salvageable veterans to teach the troops and tend the castle he intends to break ground on this season, maybe find some orphans for the church school, must grow the faith. Damn he realizes, we need more labourers for the castle, this thing is just spinning out of control, where is that census?

This is just fucking nuts, I just blew the hell out of a village to steal a sword to help release a god who I don’t even believe we should be releasing. Men don’t need gods we should be working to trap more of them off of this plane.

We have the perfect opportunity to simply hunt down and kill the biggest names in the upcoming wars and warn those who will be attacked of what’s coming, why are we getting involved with gods? Why don’t we get the staff of Rao now, rather than wait for Iuz’s demons to tip the war., I don’t like this at all.

Ah, There he is, the rat bastard barbarian chief that would not die after 2 fireballs, a cone of cold, a slow and a evards, just one last magic missile to the back of his dead should finish this off, I’ll be damned if this guy gets the opportunity to track us down later. Gee, I sure hope the other guys went back to town for a beer
